Bad day turned into a good day

Yesterday, I took Doris to the vet after vomiting for 12 hours. The vet ran some blood work and came to the conclusion that it was because we gave her a bit of pot roast. Apparently, pork has a high fat content and a dog's pancreas cannot handle that large amount of fat. I believe most of that, but she eats "Beggin Strips", which I know aren't completely healthy or pork, and she started vomiting before I gave her the roast. So, $300 later she is doing great while on some antibiotics.
Today, Chris decided to get our patio closed in. He hired my cousins, Jacob and Dominic, to do the work. I got all the way to work and Chris called to tell me that he didn't know how he was going to pay for any of the supplies since I had both the credit card and his debit card. I gave him the credit card number over the phone and he went to a Chick-fil-a for wi-fi, since he doesn't have 3G, and ordered the parts online and then went back to the store to pick them up. Ugh! Can't believe that was the best way to go about it.
When I came home, I saw a home cooked meal and a brand new patio. It's not finished yet, but I will post pics when it is. Those guys transformed my house in mere hours. I was in shock at how quick they put it up and how gorgeous it was. There are two French doors, two big windows, and a doggie door for Doris. I can't wait for it to be complete so I can sit in my enclosed patio. I really do have a wonderful husband who is trying his hardest to make us a nice home to live in. Love him!

Mini-Honeymoon Booked!!

Chris and I just booked our mini-honeymoon in Galveston. We got a deal through a time share that we saw at the State Fair back in September. We bought it knowing we would use it as a little getaway between our wedding and our real honeymoon this summer. We had a choice between Galveston and San Antonio and since we lived in San Antonio for 2 years and feel like we've seen enough, we chose Galveston. I've been there a few times, but Chris has only been to one Texas beach. I know Galveston is probably not the most awe-inspiring beach, but it will be fun. We are staying at the Victorian Condos, which is where I used to stay when I had cheerleading competitions in high school. They have since renovated it and I'm excited to see what has changed. We took off on a Friday and Monday so we could enjoy a long weekend. Also, I found out when booking our third night, that the time share was not covering, that the weekend we booked is also Mardi Gras weekend. Neither one of us have really experienced any sort of Mardi Gras partying, but we'll see what happens. We hope to try some hole-in-the-wall restaurants and plenty of seafood. I am so glad we are not picky eaters.

We also need to book our flights for our real honeymoon this July. We are going to the UK to see some of Chris' family and friends and then spending 4-5 days by ourselves. I am so excited to go back to the UK and see everyone that came to our wedding and for Chris to see his grandparents and nephew who couldn't come to the wedding. Chris is keeping it a secret from me as to where we are staying by ourselves, which I like. All I told him is that I want to be secluded and have beautiful scenery.

So even though the wedding is over, we are still on our "wedding high" as we plan our honeymoon and await our wedding photo book and DVD.

Wedding Pics

We finally got our pictures back from our photographer, Little Bird Photography by Shelley Kruse. We picked her to do our photography at our friends' wedding, Randy and Tasha Barak, in July 2010. She blew us away with her work and when we found out how affordable she was we were sold. She was so easy to work with and gave us fantastic results. She has the most amazing eye to capture not only the physical, but emotional side of her clients. She stayed the entire day of our wedding and, while being trampled over by so many people, kept a smile the whole time. We are so pleased with our pictures and I am working on making us a photo book on Shutterfly.

Here are a few of my favorites:

I Chopped the Mop

I had been wanting to cut my hair since I decided to let it grow out 2 years ago for the wedding. Well, today was the day. I wasn't a bit nervous as the scissors slowly cut over 10 inches of my locks. It felt like I lost 10 pounds of weight off of me when she cut the final lock. I felt so light and free. I love running my fingers through my short hair. I love not having it all in mine or Chris' face or getting it stuck under my armpit (I know..gross). I look forward to shorter times in drying my hair and less time in styling it. And the best part is that Chris loves my short hair, almost more than me.
Here is a before picture of just how long my hair was

And TADA!!!

So this is what married life is like

Chris and I have been married for about 10 days now and are getting settled into what married life really is. Yes, we've been doing our finances, laundry, and normal day-to-day things for over a year now, but it definitely feels different now that we are REALLY married and not just civilly married. I notice that we look at each other differently(in a good way) and have really let go of any nervousness or anxiety that we had prior to the wedding. I can't explain it too well, but there is just something emotionally and spiritually different. This time, saying our vows, it felt more real and that this is how it should have always been. I don't regret having our JP wedding or want anyone to think I think less of them because they went to the courthouse. It was the choice we made and we look at marriage much differently now because of it. There is just something about standing in front of that altar and reciting the same vows Catholics have been saying for years that affirms you that this is the right place to commit your life to someone else.

On another note, my Christmas decorations are still up and I think a part of me wants to keep them up because it reminds me of our wedding and my favorite time of the year. I love to see the variety of ornaments we have collected and have been given over the years.  They are a scrapbook of our lives on a tree. I think I will do that this weekend as well as go buy a few more things off of our registry that we didn't get yet like our pots and pans, bed sheets, pillows, and trashcan. We're just so ready to slow down and be an old married couple that watches tv together while playing Scrabble.

Here We Go!!

I decided to start a blog. I figured I would have started one a long time ago, but I guess time got away from me. I wanted to start this blog to let people know what Chris and I are up to and watch our life grow.

Just so you know a little of our story.... Chris, my husband, is from the UK and we met in March 2009 in San Antonio after my sister bumped into him at a bar. After meeting, we talked for an hour and a half and decided to see each other again. Over the next year, we kept in touch by instant messaging, Skyping, and seeing each other every couple of months. After nine months of dating, Chris proposed on New Year's Eve 2009 in Spain. We then needed to decide how we would co-exist. We decided that Chris would move here and he would need to immigrate. The simplest way for us to do this was to get married, civilly, and have our wedding in my church the following year, as planned. We were civilly married on September 30, 2010 with about 15 of our closest family and friends. Shortly after marrying, we moved back to my hometown and bought a house. Our house came with its own character and I hope to incorporate that in this blog. Also, we rescued a loving basset hound that we named Doris. She is our "dogger" and is treated as our child. We married in my church on December 31, 2011. I am so happy to finally be married and have a little family of our own.

I hope you enjoy my blog and get a glimpse of what it's like in Gilburtshire...
