State Fair of Texas 2016

The State Fair of Texas came to town and we loaded up the kids to take them there.

Eli loved climbing in the cars and trying them out

State Fair of Texas 2015

We went to the State Fair of Texas last week on my school fair day. We brought along our visiting UK friends so they could experience the fair for the first time.

We stopped at the Toyota automobiles and they had boat races for the kids. Eli and our friends liked to race the motor boars.

Eli liked to ram his into the end of the tube.

Eli loved jumping into the cars and show Daddy all of the cool features.

30 weeks pregnant at the Texas State Fair

The only food I tried...nachos. With the kids being a little rambunctious and me being big and pregnant, we didn't get to try any of the State Fair winners from this year. I'm still bummed about it.

We did get to go the petting zoo, twice!

Eli loved to watch the animals 

He tried to feed them, but just kept pouring out the feed.

We did get free ice cream in the Food and Fiber pavilion.

That made his day and sugared him up.

Such a mess!

He almost got licked by this big guy.

And he wanted a John Deere tractor to take home.

Too bad we couldn't get him one.

State Fair of Texas 2014

We took Eli to the State Fair a few weeks ago on a Friday night. We didn't have time to do everything we wanted, but we did get to feed animals, eat some good food, and see Big Tex.

Eli loved petting the animals and even let them eat out of his hand.

I only got to try one famously fried food this year. I tried the fried spaghetti and meatballs. It was tasty and had a chicken parmesan flavor to it.

We got to see Big Tex and Eli was hypnotized by the tall man staring at him.

By 8:30, this guy was pooped and slept in the stroller the rest of the time. While he slept we bought a high-powered vacuum, dip and soup mixes, and a jewelry cleaner.

There were a few more things I wanted Eli to see, but there's always next year.

State Fair 2013

***I can blame mommy brain for this one. I forgot to post this from over a month ago!!. Here ya go!***

Chris and I went to the State Fair of Texas this Sunday. It was a gorgeous day to go and see the exhibits and eat all of the fried food we could eat. With me being pregnant, we made sure that we took breaks and sat down for a bit when needed. 

We found this shaded grassy area and opted for a picture.

While we were sitting there we ate some fried Thanksgiving dinner that was new to the fair. These were scrumptious! It was the perfect blending of turkey and dressing fried up with a side of cranberry sauce and gravy.

We weren't done eating yet. We went into an exhibit hall and got in line to try dips and soups. You can see what looks like an assembly line of people dipping pretzels in different dips. We bought two soups and two dips. I'm wanting to make the soups while I'm on maternity leave since it's getting cooler and it's a very low-maintenance meal.

We met up with my sis and BIL later in the day and I meant to take pics of them and Marley at her first fair, but it became very crowded and my feet and body were just about done for the day. We did manage to eat a Fletcher's corn dog, nachos, hamburger, and ice cream before leaving. We were stuffed by the time we made it to the car with three bags of goodies for the home and a few Christmas presents.

We can't wait to take Eli next year so we can continue this family tradition.

I said, Hey what's going on??

Gilburtshire has been busy lately. October has been a busy month and it's taken me awhile to sit down and get it all out.

1) We are in the process of refinancing our home. When we bought it, almost 2 years ago, we owner-financed it for 2 years. I was trying to get this done in the summer time when I could commit more time to this lengthy and tiresome process, but things never work out that way, do they?? We're almost done with it except for getting contact information for Chris' last job, which was the Royal Air Force. He hasn't been working there for over 2 years and his base has been nonexistent about a year ago. Trying to find someone who would know my husband and his credentials is becoming a big pain. I have a feeling that this is one of the last things that they are waiting on for us. Hopefully we will get some emails back soon and get this over with.
2) With the refinancing, we are taking out a bit more to do home improvements. Our house was built in the early 70s and it hasn't had a lot of major work on it. We are wanting to put in new windows, as the ones we have are paper thin and several have bb holes in them. We also want 2 new air conditioning units. Ours are off a few degrees and are on their way out. Insulation would also be nice as we can feel air through the outlets.
3) I love my job, but I hate leaving my doggies in the morning. They get up with me, I feed them, and they send me off. This is the saddest face in the world to me. I see this almost every morning after I close the back door and head off to work.

4) Chris and I went to the Texas State Fair with a few friends a week ago. While we were there we ate a Fletcher's Corn Dog, pizza, and Texas-brewed Tea. When I went with my family a few weeks ago, I had a deep fried red velvet cupcake. I would eat that any day of the week.

 

While we were there, we purchased a new mattress. It's similar to a Tempurpedic mattress. We got it delivered the next day and fell in love with our bed. This thing is so comfortable. When you lie on the bed you feel your body sink into it. We have had amazing sleep on this mattress and the dogs love it too. It's hard enough getting them out of the bed already.
5) I tried Taco Pasta Bake from Pinterest last night

I would say it's very similar to a Hamburger Helper recipe, but calls for a bit more cheese. I would cut out some of the cheese for next time. Overall, my husband ate it and we'll make it again for a weeknight dinner. Hamburger Helper would have been a bit easier to make.

6) We're going to a Halloween party this weekend and I'm going to try a new Pinterest appetizer recipe and Spice Cake Whoopie Pies. I'll let you know how it all turns out!
